The MHC provides an alternative to incarceration for individuals with serious mental health disorders, connecting them with community-based treatment and support services.
Background/Explanation:
The original Interlocal Agreement, executed on May 18, 2022, established the MHC through a collaborative effort between the County, and the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida.
The program operates as a pre-trial intervention, diverting individuals with serious mental illnesses away from the criminal justice system and into treatment.
The BJA has approved a no-cost extension of the grant, necessitating this amendment to align the agreement’s term with the extended funding availability.
Fiscal Impact:
The budget for this grant is split between the Human Services and Court budget. The funding for the Human Services portion was not included in the FY25 Human Services budget however it can be covered by expected lapse within the cost center.
