Summary:

Summary

Florida Humanities is partnering with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service to bring the “Many Voices, One Nation” Program to Florida by providing funds for local organizations to create unique exhibitions specific to their localities. The initial phase of the grant is “Exhibition Scripting and Design,” which will provide $7,000 to allow Heritage Village to conduct research and gather oral histories from Pinellas County residents to augment a Smithsonian-licensed exhibit. Upon successful completion of this grant stage, Heritage Village will be invited to apply for a second grant phase in FY26, which will provide further funding to help fabricate, install, and launch the exhibit.

Body

Background Information:

Since the opening of a temporary gallery space in Heritage Village’s Madeira Beach Cottage in 2022, Heritage Village has hosted several temporary exhibits inside working with community partners to showcase the rich history of the nation and Pinellas County. Exhibits included: Madeira Beach: On the Waves of Change, A Place for All People, Water Towers, Building the Sunshine City, and Sounds of Religion.

Fiscal Impact:

Receipt of this grant will provide $7,000 of funding for Heritage Village to script and design the exhibit and to purchase a 5-year license for the exhibit from the Smithsonian. Heritage Village will be able to use staff time to match the funding requirement, which is already budgeted for. The funding will affect FY25 and FY26.

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to sign this Agreement is granted under Code Section 2-62 (a)(1) and further delegated to the Department Director on March 28, 2016.
