Summary:

This policy seeks to reimburse employees for damage sustained to their personal vehicles during activation for Hurricane Milton.  The reimbursement will be up $2500 to meet the deductible for fully insured employees or up to $2500 for partially insured employees for damage sustained.

We estimate this policy will affect 8 employees under the BCC who activated during Hurricane Milton.  This estimate is based on information obtained by Risk Management to date.

Background/Explanation:

Several employees reporting to work during the Milton activation had their personal vehicles damaged due to storm conditions such as flooding at the Public Works ERB.  This claim policy attempts to assist employees who reported as required and were subject to financial burden resulting from vehicle damages.

Fiscal Impact:

The total fiscal impact is an estimated to be below $25,000. This is not specifically budgeted for in the FY25 Budget for the Risk Financing Fund, however, the Department should be able to absorb this though spending adjustments.

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to sign this claim policy is granted under (Code Section 2-62 (a)(1) of County Code.
