Summary:
Pinellas County is proposing to expand MMU hours/services by adding dental services 1 day per week for 8 hours, while providing medical services 4 days per week for 10 hours. This expands service hours on the MMU to a total of 48 hours per week or an additional 8 hours.
Background/Explanation:
Health centers will utilize FY25 Expanded Hours funding to further ease patients’ ability to access essential health center services during new operating hours such as early weekday mornings, weekday evenings, and weekends, when access to primary care may otherwise be limited or nonexistent in their community. New operating hours will support patients to receive care in a primary care setting, reducing visits to emergency departments. This will reduce health care costs and preserve emergency department capacity for patients with acute needs.
Fiscal Impact:
Federal funding in an amount not to exceed $999,996.00 over a two-year period from December 1, 2024, through November 30, 2026, will be provided by the Health Services Administration under the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Expanded Hours funding opportunity. There are no match or cost-sharing requirements.
Human Services will be applying for a grant up to the above amounts, this item is for approval to apply for the federal funding grant and has no direct Fiscal Impact to the budget for FY25 until approved and received.
