Summary:
Release to enter and conduct business on premises waiver with Gulf Hospitality Management, LLC (GHM) to permit Solid Waste Department staff to participate as a vendor at the World Oceans Day event hosted by Keep Pinellas Beautiful.
Background/Explanation:
Solid Waste will educate event attendees about recycling, waste reduction, how garbage is managed in Pinellas County, and the County’s vision of zero waste to landfill by 2050. To incentivize event attendees to visit the Solid Waste table, attendees will be offered a sustainable giveaway for their participation in a waste sorting game. The game helps to educate attendees on proper recycling, what contamination is, and the reasons why certain materials are not accepted in recycling programs. Information about tours of the Solid Waste Disposal Complex will be shared. Recycle Guides and other informational handouts are available. Outreach metrics are tracked for each event, including the number of attendees who participated in the recycling sorting game, took outreach materials, and talked to staff at the booth.
The estimated number of attendees is 300. Other participating vendors include: Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Trade Winds Resorts & Eco Team, Keep Pinellas Beautiful Youth Advisory Council, Oceana, Sea Turtle Trackers, St. Pete Urban Forestry, St. Petersburg College - STEM Center, Tampa Bay Estuary Program, Tampa Bay Watch, Trash Caulin, Trash Turtles, and University of South Florida St. Petersburg Environmental Club.
