Summary:

Treasure Island Police Department utilizes the County Radio system. This agreement allows them to receive data to track GPS coordinates of individual officers carrying a portable radio with required hardware and programming. This ability is critical in situations where officers exit their response vehicle and are on foot pursuit.

Background/Explanation:

GPS technology, installed in Motorola portable radios, offers agencies the ability to track an officer via the radio system, within limitations as described in the Inter-local Agreement. Pinellas County Radio & Technology manages the countywide public safety radio system, and under this agreement will implement this functionality while maintaining voice priority to all system users. The Inter-local Agreement provides standards and procedures for providing access to GPS technology.

Fiscal Impact:

GPS functionality is currently available on the radio system, which is covered under the P25 Radio and Communications System Contract No.145-0399-M, between Pinellas County and Motorola Solutions. There is no additional cost or fiscal impact to Pinellas County.
