Summary:
The State Grant Program is provided to assist Florida counties with the installation and maintenance of enhanced 911 systems including periphery needs such as the necessary infrastructure to support those 911 systems for both training and live operations. The E911 Board assists eligible counties through the E911 State Grant Program using E911 trust fund monies.
The agreement requires the County Administrator’s signature.
Background/Explanation:
The Pinellas County Regional 911 Center acts as the steward of all 911 Fee funding for Pinellas County including the five secondary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP).
Grant monies received will be used for the purchase of equipment and services required to install infrastructure to support electrical and network needs for the Regional 911 Training Room remodel. This remodel will allow Pinellas County Regional 911 to train new hires in a more realistic environment on the software used in the live environment. This will allow trainees to be better prepared more quickly to work independently at a high-quality level. Additionally, the remodel, supported by this additional infrastructure, will provide the center with additional workstations that can be used in live operations if needed for high volume situations such as a disaster, or when other workstations have technical issues.
This infrastructure and the upgrade it supports will contribute to a necessary enhancement to Regional 911’s ability to train and support operational needs.
Fiscal Impact:
Grant funds of $93,277.41 shall be provided on a cost reimbursement basis by the State of Florida E911 Board. No matching funds are associated with this grant. This grant was not anticipated during development of the FY24 Adopted Budget. Funding for this agreement was not anticipated and is not included in the current-year budget of Safety and Emergency Services in the E911 Communications Fund. A Budget Amendment for FY24 may be requested.
