Recommended Action

Approval and execution by the County Administrator of Amendment No. 1 to the Medical Direction Service Agreement between the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Authority and EmCare, Inc.

 

                     Identifies the Pinellas County Sheriff Tactical EMS Team as an approved Pinellas County First Responder under the clinical oversight of the EMS Medical Director.

                     All other terms and conditions of the Medical Direction Service Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.

Summary:

This Amendment No. 1 will update Appendix A, of the current Medical Direction Service Agreement, to identify the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Tactical EMS Team as an authorized Pinellas County First Responder under the clinical oversight of the EMS Medical Director.

 

Background/Explanation:

The EMS Authority and the Contractor are current parties to the 2017 Medical Direction Service Agreement. This agreement expires on September 30, 2022.  Laws of Florida 2019-77 amended 790.25, F.S. to allow Paramedics embedded in SWAT teams to carry firearms. These SWAT Paramedics will be PCSO employees but will still operate under the established protocols and clinical oversight of the EMS Medical Director.
